What happened? The food environment changed, by design. Food industry profit is maximized by cheap low nutrition ingredients that drive max overeating. It's an evolutionary process toward a fatter, sicker, infertile population hooked on addictive foods and lifelong daily drugs.

@DrEenfeldt >The food environment changed, by design. True, but let's not forget that a lot of this design was intended to prevent famines. This part has succeeded immensely.

@DrEenfeldt No it’s all genes. It takes generations for genetic mutations to affect the phenotype etc but apparently 40 years ago fairy dust was sprinkled on the world by a passing meteor and that caused overnight mutations that took 3 days to manifest.

@DrEenfeldt No doubt, the food environment changed. I believe most would recognize this as true and agree. But, it was also my lack of self discipline that led to my morbid obesity. I didn’t lose 105+ until I took responsibility for my own poor discipline. I had to change to change.

@DrEenfeldt 💯 We need to reverse course on our increasingly obesogenic environment! Ask yourself how you can become a change agent. Educate and vote are 2 good steps. In the mean time treat the disease. We have the tools.

@DrEenfeldt Epigenetics also don’t express that quickly…must be something in the air. We need more X-rays and MRI machines!😂

@DrEenfeldt I think again about the most recent 60 min episode and how unbalanced and uninformed it came across

@DrEenfeldt I agree it’s the food but also people are more stressed and have less patience and time to cook and learn about food.

@DrEenfeldt A lot of this junk in pre-packaged foods is so hyperpalatable, people want to eat it…a lot. The decline in cooking at home is crazy.

@DrEenfeldt Wait the 60 minutes smart lady told me it was genetics. How can your genetics change in your lifetime?

@DrEenfeldt Portion sizes are huge at restaurants. Everyone eats out more. Kids and adults spend their free time with an electronic device. Snacking between meals has become the norm. Everyone has a sugary drink in their hand.

@DrEenfeldt I believe it, market won't change this, too much $ involved, like asking big pharma to only apply 50% ag chems to the lands we grow on, another related problem, govts won't mandate changes, too much $ involved, has to come to personal choice, nobody markets that effectively thou

@DrEenfeldt Oh, and I have to say, if it is bringing infertility, then it reverses the evolutionary trend toward a fatter and sicker population. Nevertheless, fertility ends at about 40 yo. Evolution doesn't' care about the person after that. If the obese die soon after that, "c'est la vie".

@DrEenfeldt It should be upon the individual to take responsibility for their own health Teach the detrimental factors of eating processed foods loaded with sugars and refined grains Then there will be less 'profit' to be made Until then, companies can (& should) try to be profitable

@DrEenfeldt People like inexpensive food. The obesity trend will continue as inflation will continue to make food unaffordable.

@DrEenfeldt That kind of discourse leads people to avoid responsibility and blame the "industry". Make them conscious of their own choices when they buy grocery. Sedentarity is also a big issue.

@DrEenfeldt West Virginnie and Kentucky leadin' us to new heights. And thanks, people of Kentucky, for supplying us with so much bourbon whiskey and tobacco!

@DrEenfeldt People should take about this more—the behavioral economics. Food got cheaper(and less saitisting/more addictive) to incomes as mobility tanked, making for an easy compensation in the winner take all economy. SOMA.

@DrEenfeldt Know what else causes obesity besides the trashy food? Lifestyle and excess intake. Stop blaming just the food. The kids dont ride bikes or play anymore. They have food in one hand and a phone in the other.
