In lockdown we found that people who used video/voice calling to keep in touch with family/friends showed more positive affective biases than people who preferred text-based communication. In our follow-up text-based communicators' affective bias had significantly improved.

Overall, the results point towards affective biases, and in particular the recognition of sad faces, as potential markers of social connectivity.

In this follow-up conducted in 2022, half of participants reported that their social connectivity had not returned to typical pre-lockdown levels. Changes in social connectivity were significantly associated with changes in recognising facial emotion.
