It’s so necessary for relationship and trust building in the outpatient surgery world so it’s a really good feeling to know I’ll be an asset to my future field.

In the last few months I’ve been complimented by patients & attendings alike for the way I talk to pts during my consenting & consultation process 🥰.

In medicine it can feel like everything needs to be done in a rush sometimes, but there is almost always time to connect human to human. Thats my practice style—people taking care of people. My patients probably don’t know it but they’ve tremendously helped me to too #HereToHelp.

Coming in today, multiple people have told me that my patient has been raving about me 🥹 To anyone who will listen really, lol. Seeing them for the first time today was everything. Everything. I almost cried y’all.

As we prepared them to drift off to sleep, my patient held my hand. They said a prayer and I hoped my God could hear it too. And because I knew my patient I was able to advocate for a different surgical approach because for some people, scars matter.

A different patient was being taken for an urgent case, but I still took the time to just talk to them. Amidst chaos, my patient told me that my communication was amazing & they’ve never had a doctor like me. They asked if I would be apart of their surgery…they wanted me there🥹.

My patient stopped me and thanked me for being so communicative and in just being actually “normal”… that they’ve never had a doctor like me before 🥹 feeling goosebumps and all warm I chalked it up to a one off. Then it happened again!.

Now as the physician, I choose *not* rattle off all the medical lingo, but just like talk to people…in plain language about whatever medical process. It’s not easy, but it makes a big, big difference to patients.

Having the personal experience of once being a critical patient, I remember feeling like things were just happening to me but having no idea what was being done. And it’s no diss to them…those folks saved my life!.

As of late, I’ve gotten the most heartwarming comments from my patients. I remember being called to the ICU in the middle of the night to check on my patient and after I did all the things to develop a solid care plan, I then just took a few minutes to talk the pt through it.
