Open a terminal: first thing I type is "edit". SSH into a Juniper: first thing I type is "ls". It never fails.

This is how I learned that Synology actually makes routers

(Also I am getting ARP requests from the ISP for every device in the broadcast domain as well, I just filtered it in this screenshot for brevity).

Unicast does seem to be filtered at least so this isn't as terrible as it could be, but I'm still seeing a bunch of NetBIOS name resolution and NAS media server broadcasts and there's definitely some degree of information leakage going on.

Earlier I tried responding to all of these ARP requests directly and it didn't seem to do anything, but now I'm curious what'll happen if I start blasting out ARP responses via the broadcast address.

Is this common practice for residential ISPs?.

So now that I'm looking more, I don't think Google Fiber (Webpass) is doing any broadcast/multicast filtering between customers here - I'm even seeing DHCP solicits and ACKs that aren't from or for me. (mDNS from other customers was not captured here but it's also on the wire)

(also i did add myself to the dialout group but i forgot the systemd command to reload user groups without rebooting which is why they're all running as root).

apparently if you have a flaky USB connection and your terminal adapter gets disconnected, GNU screen will just sit there spinning at 100% until you notice and kill the process

Somehow, I was able to immediately tell that this was an official government website even without seeing the instructions or the .gov TLD
