Today we mourn the incredible loss of
@judithheumann
a mentor and light for so many.
We challenge YOU to create access and advocate for disability inclusion in her honor.
Get involved, educate yourself.
We are all responsible for access.

#AccessIsLove
Remember that hashtags are significantly more accessible for those who use screen readers, have learning disabilities, experience brain fog and more when every new word is capitalized. Thats why we say
#DocsWithDisabilities
and not "
#docswithdisabilities
."
Together, we have created a movement.
Since 2018, we've tweeted 40K times. In April, the
#DocsWithDisabilities
hashtag left 2.6 million impressions.
Most importantly, we created a space for people to connect, share their experiences, research and build community.
Thank you 🤍

Release from overnight call in residency is a reasonable accommodation under the ADA w/ few exceptions (e.g., program size and necessity of overnights to the speciality (surgery and ObGyn). In large internal medicine residencies, this is almost always reasonable.

Students w/physical/sensory disabilities have equal trajectory as peers
Students w/ cognitive/learning disabilities:
1. Take longer to grad/more LOA's
2. Have⬇️Step 1 & 2 scores
3. ⬇️match on first attempt
🚫accommodations likely play a role!
3/6 When a talk is in person-ask if there are accommodation needs.
Do not "pack" the schedule. Consider transportation needs, taking elevators instead of stairs, and building in breaks. You may not "see" a disability. Be thoughtful about a speakers potential access needs.
1/2 Just a 🧵 of gratitude.
