The immigration health surcharge is punitive and racist. It makes judgements on who can reproduce and who cannot. It is a flat tax with the wealthiest paying the same as the poorest - undermining everything the NHS stands for. Using this to pay public worker salaries is abhorrent

Visa systems are racist and colonial - built on old hierarchies of power - they sustain and reinforce global inequalities. Increasing the amount people have to pay in visa fees or in NHS charges while actively recruiting them to work for the NHS is paradoxical & abusive.

The NHS was built to provide care for people who need it, no matter their ability to pay. It survives because, despite year on year of underfunding and understaffing, it is made of people who embody those values day in and day out. Without these people the NHS would not exist.

We stand with all striking workers. To pit us against each other is an old tactic & one we must not succumb to. To suggest fair pay for healthcare workers comes out of the pockets of the people without whom the NHS would not exist is despicable, discriminatory & racist.
