🚨 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁. We just published a head-to-head comparison of two cornerstone strength assessments: the 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁 vs. the 𝗜𝗠𝗧𝗣. 🔬 Using 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 and 𝗘𝗠𝗚 data, we unpack their unique neuromuscular profiles—and the.

Strength matters. Stronger athletes respond quicker & more specifically to ballistic & jump training. BUT: Without continued heavy strength work, the decay of force-producing capabilities likely limited improvements after 5 weeks.

𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 ≠ One Thing 💪🔍. It’s the most used term in strength science—yet it describes two distinct domains:. 🔹 Heavy Dynamic Strength.🔹 Isometric Strength. They might moderately correlate at a single point in time (10–50%), but after training?. ➡️

🚀 Strength qualities overlap, interact, and can distort 1-to-1 correlations with sprint speed & other performance metrics. 🚨Ignoring these interactions leads to misinterpreted data and wasted resources. I break it down in my latest Substack: ⬇️. 🔗

⚡ Rate of force development isn’t a generic strength quality. 🧐 The ability to rapidly apply force is task-dependent—context matters. 📊 I break it down in my latest post:

Awesome work Dr @mcgeneau on publishing this review (alongside two other studies so far) from her outstanding PhD thesis. It builds on our previous article in SCJ by undertaking an even more systematic and comprehensive dive into the topic.

Thanks mate. The terminology can get a bit confusing. I think the key is to know what strength domains exist, regardless of what you call them. And have an idea of what tests, measures and training tasks reflect them.

@timkettenring In the strength development sphere I think this recent paper from @DocLachJames has done much to align terminology (and builds really well on previous work) 👇.
