High performance is a paradox that defies common wisdom... Pursue what most avoid; letting it happen over making it happen; trying less over trying more; not thinking about results generates the best results; effortless power trumps powerless effort; play ball, don't work ball.

On Tuesday, I accidentally wore my shirt inside-out, a day that included two executive coaching Zoom meetings, another Zoom meeting with an NCAA team, & shopping around town. “Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure” - Dan Millman

A beloved colleague & long-time mentor, @ClintHurdle13, often reminded our players & coaching staff that “there are two types of people playing this game at the highest level: Those who are humble, & those who are about to be.” So. Freaking. True. Keep pushing those rocks.

Top level performers are elite IMPERFECTIONISTS... 1. They roll with struggle & setbacks 2. They release & reset quickly following mistakes 3. They see failure as short term, temporary, & changeable 4. They take pride in "winning ugly" with their "B Game" when necessary

I recently was reminded that giving it 90% almost always works out better than giving it 110% Giving it 110% invites the overthinking, overtrying, & overdoing byproducts we call pressing Giving it 90% allows for freedom, instinct, & athletic genius to emerge Counterintuitive

I've been quiet here. I've felt discouraged. I've felt insignificant. I haven't been practicing the very things I preach. Recently, I've been challenged by a coach-colleague-friend to continue living out the principles I preach despite how I feel. You're on! Stay tuned...

The Negativity Bias actively exists in all of us. We’re evolutionarily predisposed to focus on & recall negative events because this hyper-negativity helps keep us safe & alive. While this might help a person survive, it impedes their desire to thrive. Hunt the daily successes.

“Stop shoulding on yourself” This was first credited to HofF psychologist Albert Ellis I should’ve… made my first serve been on time for the fastball hit more fairways Shoulding is a form of self-judgment & self-punishment that disrupts consistent high level execution

I’ve figured out a surefire way to live a criticism-free, stress-free, & disappointment-free life… If you want to avoid criticism, don’t attempt anything. If you want to avoid stress & disappointment, don’t engage in anything you care about that has an undetermined outcome.
