Each day for the next 30, I'll tweet a mini-essay as part of #ship30for30. Some of what I'll be exploring… 🌑the dark side of being human 🤔ancient ideas with timeless value ✍🏾how we make the stories that make us 🧠psychology, culture & faith as meta-stories Join me! 🧵
I’ve been publishing every week for months but I’m still struggling to build a daily writing habit. So I’m excited to join the March cohort of #Ship30for30: committing to a tiny essay everyday for 30 days. (Gulp.) More info at

In other words, you love yourself by loving your neighbour. There are few consistently powerful reasons that drive big changes than doing it for the sake of those we love. (The version – “you can’t love your neighbour until you love yourself” has it backwards.)
Lack of direction in life often comes from lack of genuine love for people around you; if you have a bunch of people you care about and want to support, it's only natural that you strive to become a healthier, smarter, wealthier version of yourself, or you will let them down.

I'm struck by the extent of instinctive pushback on the idea that whatever led people to support Nazis might be in anyone. But if we can't see how people like (yes) us could've done that, we won't be able to learn not to. We'll just assume it can't be us until, well, it is.
We each have a Nazi in us. We need to understand the psychological roots of authoritarianism | Gabor Maté

Hope everyone who buys the Apple Pencil today remembers: you have to manually add it to Find My (the “+” button in the “Devices” tab) Do it on any device and it gets added on all your devices

I feel like this is just normal for those of us who grew up outside the UK and US - basically anywhere English was not the only language. Once you're free from the assumption that your media has to be in your native language, you're open to everything else.

The trans activist outrage that ensues on here whenever I share my belief that jailed women shouldn't be used as validation tools or emotional support props for trans-identified male sex offenders is as revealing as it's predictable. Such activists can't bring themselves to

I’ve come o associate spiritual maturity with a preparedness to wait. It’s an unhurriedness grounded in a conviction that you are LOVED by the one who’s always been in the business of working order out of chaos. Patience doesn’t come naturally to me but I’m learning to wait.

I see this often: the idea that expensive clothes are not worth their asking price, and that these factories use the same labor practices as fast fashion. The idea throws doubt on companies trying to do the right thing, and gives cover to fast fashion. But is it true? 🧵

I really really love that this exists
A few months ago, we started archiving. We've dug through the thousands of dusty old Nigerian newspaper pages, digitised them, and made them accessible at your fingertips. And we're just getting started. Start exploring: https://t.co/fC0pNfUvGS

How I feel about Google’s photography announcements is nailed by @gruber in one elegant phrase: “…technically impressible, but ethically blithe.” I really couldn’t put it better.

Pixel phone photography is racing ahead to a world where images reflect moments that never actually were.

Something I’ve learned the hard way, but which I’m not sure I’ve ever seen articulated clearly.
Long vacations rarely cure burnout. They usually bring temporary relief. The frequency of time off from work matters more than the duration. 2 separate week-long vacations are more restorative than a 2-week trip. Regular breaks are vital to well-being. https://t.co/GLDvTsDGOm

This. The @bibleproject team, led by Tim and Jon, have legit transformed how I think about the Bible and my faith like perhaps nothing else since first reading CS Lewis, GK Chesterton and Dorothy Sayers a couple decades ago
The way I read the Bible has been transformed by @bibleproject Here are their 7 pillars for reading the Bible the way it was intended - as a unified story that leads to Jesus 🧵 The Bible is…

“Does Christianity encourage morbid introspection? The alternative is much more morbid. Those who do not think about their own sins make up for it by thinking incessantly about the sins of others.” —C. S. Lewis

Some people really need a billboard announcing: “Behold, here be jokes.”
