Now that I’m playing for my club @hammer_chess I have decided to step up my training regimen. This is a big responsibility and I want to do well. From today I commit 2 hours per day to chess - 1 hour from 6:30am to 7:30am and one hour from 9:00pm to 10:00pm. This is all I can.

Can someone explain this to me. On Lichess I lose to players rated 1200 in bullet with a rating of 1500-1600 in puzzles (sometimes over several hundred puzzles) whereas I peaked at over 2400 in puzzles. How can they see tactics I don’t see despite being on paper much weaker.

Why is it that I feel I get better at chess and nonetheless lose to increasingly lower rated opponent 🤷🏻‍♂️ . I guess this is part of the journey….

Absolutely agree. I have made much more progress by adopting a growth mindset than by obsessing over rating.

My Chess Mindset for Breaking 2000 ELO. 1: I stopped caring about rating….2: . and started caring about growth. 3: Each mistake = a lesson. Each loss = feedback. Final: Play to improve. Elo will follow.

Today I played the best game of my life. It helped that my opponent helped me a little but I did not make any mistakes, and relied on my beloved Samisch against the Kings Indian. Perhaps hard work is paying off after all!

When I’m learning a new chess opening, I’ve found it’s much more effective to start by playing—even if I don’t know the theory yet. This connects to the Dunning-Kruger effect, a concept from a 1999 study where researchers found that people who performed the worst on tests often.

After a lot of trial and error I have managed to win this position against Stockfish set at level 6 on Lichess (of a total of 8 levels, 8 being the strongest). This has taught me a lot on how to play these positions. I’ll probably write a separate post with some thoughts on the

In my league game with White last week I ended up playing the minority attack. I correctly created a backward c6 pawn, defended my opponent king side attack well and ended with the following position, with White to move. It seems to me that White is better because of the two

Question for my #chesspunks friends and coaches. I’m thinking of playing long time controls training games against Stockfish at full engine strength. Of course I’ll lose all the games but by thinking deeply through each move during the game and doing a thorough post mortem.

Some pre-weekend endgame warm up! White to play and win. The first few moves are easy but how does White ensures one of the pawn promotes? Try to calculate till the end. The path the king must take is instructive.

Beautiful indeed. After the re-capture there is still the question of whether to take the pawn with the Bishop or with the Queen. What would you do?.

Had this game earlier last night in a match representing @hammer_chess . My opponent, who was a fifth of my age, went for a Benoni. I played the line with f4 as I was in a more enterprising spirit. Having lost a previous game a few weeks back with the Benoni I had done my

Studying Shankland's rook endgames book & understanding new things - e.g. in Lucena position another plan besides building a bridge is evicting defending R:.- w/ bishop or center P either plan wins. - w/ NP only bridge wins. - w/ RP only evicting wins. Made a handout about it:
