Provenance problems. Teelings is a distillery in Dublin owned in part by @Bacardi. It has not been in existance for 32 years. The implications on the label that it gets its essential qualities in Dublin or at Teelings are misleading. And illegal. @McConalogue @spiritsEUROPE

Triple distillation refers to a batch process. Is it therefore possible to describe grain whisky or a grain-dominant blend as triple distilled? Discuss.

This is very relevant to the Irish whisky industry. Add soft touch Irish Government regulation to get a stark picture of dysfunction and reputational risk taking.

Special pleading from @ibec_irl in @IrishTimes today. Pushes #provenance internationally but disregards it domestically. Ibec's @IrishWhiskeyAsc is "the worst for passing off [whisky] product that has no connection with [Connemara] [Glendalough]" etc. @SpiritedUlrich @FSAIinfo

In a whisky bar in Ireland a customer asks where the drop she was enjoying was distilled. Experienced manager (who is now working in the Scotch industry) patiently explains to customer: "It doesn't matter where it was distilled." True story. Discuss.

And distilled where? Not a ridiculous question if you are looking at an Irish whisky label. In Scotland @ScotchWhiskySWA makes sure you don't need to ask. #provenance @IrishWhiskeyAsc @McConalogue @SpiritedUlrich

True provenance is the basis of any PGI category. But wait, is this the same Stuart McNamara @WhiskeyBlogger who has perverted the PGI concept with, for example, @PortmageeWhisky (made by various distilleries elsewhere)? Deep credibility issue here for @isme_ie. @SeanPollock44

False origin labelling in #PGI products is contrary to various EU laws. But for the #IrishWhisky PGI it is sanctioned by the competent authorities in Ireland. Why? @agriculture_ie @FSAIinfo @McConalogue
