I always love watching @WolfeyGlick's long form content. There's a lot there for someone just in it for the story, but listening to him talk about his preparation & play always makes me think of new ways I could spend my time better in tournament :).

I guess I'll keep trying, but who knows. maybe it's hopeless? Right now, my heart is very heavy. I am planning to graduate from my PhD program this upcoming spring, so I'll probably take a full "break" after Pittsburgh. See you on the other side.

I write this in part so those feelings are visible. Transparent honesty is a core of how I engage with y'all. But I also write it just. as a record, for better or for worse. I don't know if I can get better. I've tried a few ways and run into the same problems.

But for now, in this exact moment, I am deeply disappointed. I feel a tremendous, cracking sadness at the effort I've put in to no avail, presumably because I've done so incorrectly. I see the strength and consistency of players around me and can't help but hate my own work.

I can't play as many weak tournaments as I have in a row without thinking so, and I especially can't spend so much time getting flattened by every player "at my level" that I meet. I need to figure out how to start punching at and above my weight class.

Usually, I try hard to be maximally positive. Don't expect that to change! It's very important to engage with the game from an improvement first mindset. From that viewpoint, I can clearly see that something about my preparation needs to change.

Preparing MUs, studying plans, and making time to review my games carefully ahead of worlds. I like to think I brought a creative team that had plans into most of the metagame, and Zac had an excellent run with it. Of course, my play was once again pathetic, and I floundered.
