“Ford govt wants you to think that everyone who works in #OntEd is overpaid. Ave wage of #OSSTF ed workers is $45,000 a yr & many rely on a 2nd or 3rd job just to get by. Ed workers are frontline workers. They deserve respect + fair wage.” - @karenosstf https://t.co/Fegatiy90b

Finished my Masters of Education and after I sent in my final paper, something came over me and I wept. It was a bittersweet feeling of happiness, mixed with a stress release, and profound sadness that's it's over. I love school, whatever will I do with my newfound freedom?

A child's brain architecture changes as a result of trauma. These changes jeopardize children's ability to direct their attention, regulate their emotions and behaviour, and form positive relationships with teachers (Craig, 2006).Does your pedagogy include trauma informed care?

As the new school year approaches and with the advent of Covid-19, it's important more than ever that we as educators create classroom environments and lessons plans that are trauma informed. Our classrooms must be empathetic, safe, calming, mindful and resilient.

We can help traumatized students channel their pain in positive ways through advocacy as a way to achieve post-traumatic growth. Here’s how: https://t.co/qXuP3Q4caV #educ5199g #traumainformeded

How to help a child who has been traumatized • Follow your school’s reporting procedures if you suspect abuse • Work with the child’s caregiver(s) to share & address school problems • Use community resources when child shows signs of inability to cope with traumatic stress

FACT: 1/4 children attending school has been exposed to a traumatic event that can affect learning & behavior. Educators should support students by helping them to maintain routine, providing voice & choice, increasing conversations, & offering increased support a in a safe place

Trauma-informed response strategies look at: situations to minimize stressors by posing clear policies/scheduling, counselling to nurture the self; support to ease transitions and strategies to help with stress management. #educ5199g #traumainformed

To assist veterans pursuing Post Secondary Degrees who suffer from PTSD, trauma informed education states, it's important to assist them in four ways, “Situation, Self, Support, Strategy” (Shlossberg et. al., 1995). https://t.co/5zZtW1VFNR #educ5199g #traumainformeded

The Listen, Protect, Connect (LPC) informed model is an effective way to validate the feelings of students who experienced trauma or have PTSD. It offers a model to help educators & parents respond to a student when they are triggered.
