Second chapter of my thesis is out! 🌍🌊 It highlights the vital role of hydrology in driving DOC and DIC production/export to streams. Deeper respiration processes are increasingly important in a warmer, drier US mountain west. #CriticalZone #Carbon Link: https://t.co/dTxj82wbDw

Today in my terrestrial biogeochemistry class we will discuss @LiReactiveWater et al. 2022 ( https://t.co/pacF6Pc8g5) with a visit to class by coauthor and @Brown_IBES postdoc @DevonKerins ! So many great concepts in this paper: C-Q, reactive transport, Budyko etc.

🌡️📉 In a warmer, drier future, this suggests lower carbon production and export, with a higher proportion from deeper flow and respiration processes. Our findings highlight the growing importance of deeper biogeochemical processes in a changing climate.

🏔️❄️During snowmelt and wet years, DOC & DIC production and export peak, driven more by hydrology than temperature. Shallow soils are the primary source, but deeper processes are essential to include to describe carbon dynamics. #Snowmelt #CarbonDynamics
