Sickle cell is well understood — but patients, most of whom are Black — get haphazard, uncoordinated care. ER docs are often unfamiliar with best practices of sickle cell care and treat patients like drug-seekers. https://t.co/qlE5h1IyJ9

Doctors unfamiliar with the nuances of sickle cell care often write off patients — most of whom are Black — as addicts.

DTE sold years-old customer debt, landing thousands of Detroiters in court and with garnished paychecks. DTE is the only large utility in region to sell debt, and the sales bring only pennies for each dollar owed. New from us and @propublica.
outliermedia.org
In 2017 alone, DTE Energy sold debt from more than 290,000 closed accounts to collectors, leaving Detroiters to face default judgments and garnished wages.

"The city continues to rely on contractors to source and assess backfill dirt, remaining largely ignorant of what is in the dirt or whether it’s safe." My latest for @media_outlier. Co-written by @kayleighrenel who did an incredible amount of research.
outliermedia.org
While Detroit relies on contractors' promises of soil safety, hundreds of demolition sites have been filled with untested cemetery dirt.
