@DerickARhodes @michelangeloRit He references his past with Tifa more because that is literally the whole plot of the game. Cloud finding himself and his own history through Tifa. Aerith is a plot device so the world doesnβt end and main hero and heroine can live their lives at the end.

Aerith absolutely brings out the best in Cloud. She makes him a better person and brings him closer to his true self every time she interacts with him. You may not like that she's confident or that she has romantic feelings for him, but that's the truth.

At the end of the day, Cloud is a dorky little kid who doesn't know how to be comfortable in his own skin, and rather than let him keep up this absurd act of being a hardened soldier and lie to all of his friends like Tifa does, Aerith pressures him to act like his true self.

She also likes to peel away the layers of Cloud's exterior. Something you see a lot of in Remake. She's constantly pushing him, trying to make the mask he's made for him crack. And she succeeds. See: The high-five progression. She doesn't let Cloud lie to her or himself.

And probably most important, she's assertive in her attraction to Cloud. She openly pursues him. She didn't act that way with Zack. She was passive with Zack. Let him do his own thing. Cloud is different: She treats him different.

She treats everyone else differently because everyone else is different. She calls out Barret for calling people who believed Shinra morons. She makes jokes about Red's paws. She's sassy and confident and loves to laugh. It's part of her personality.

Second: She's not trying to replace Zack. The roles between her and Cloud are reversed from those between Zack and Cloud. She's the aggressor with Cloud because she knows he is not the type who would pursue her. She is the one acting like Zack in all of this.

So first of all: Aerith treats Cloud differently because he is different. He's literally not himself. He is closed off, trying way too hard to be 'cool' and is genuinely bad at it. Aerith sees right through his tough guy act and even says so multiple times.

It is absolutely baffling to me that people can manage to ignore the reasons why Aerith behaves the way she does while still managing to judge her every move like she's a selfish child who doesn't think about anyone else. She's emotionally intelligent, more so than anyone else.

Oi, I wonder why she treats Cloud differently. First: If she's trying to force Cloud to be Zack, why doesn't she treat him like Zack? Why does she constantly reference wanting to know the "real" Cloud? After all this time and all these dates, why is she not sure how she feels?

Just the most dishonest possible bad faith takes about something because you don't like a character. I knew people like this growing up. Having my own shit to deal with, no matter how polite I was about it, was an assault on THEIR happiness. "Tantrum" fuck off, serious.
I've been vocal about my dislike for Aer in rebirth because of the way she regressed from remake. But this really sealed the deal for me. Cloud and Tifa having panic attacks and PTSD in Nibelheim but Aer decided to throw an insensitive, jealous tantrum at the water tower.

Buddy, Cloud fucked Tifa 100% and Titus and Yuna absolutely sexed near that lake. Assuming sex has never been a part of the series is weird. Especially when 16 has 0 actual nudity. It's just implied. And those implications are relevant to exploring character motivations.
