But lastly, everyone who volunteered to run sizzles, cake stalls and helped crowd ‘sauce’ our data, and to the many people who bought sausages, cakes or other election goods to support their local community.

And so the 2025 Federal Election democracy sausage coverage comes to a close! Various records smashed, many sausages eaten but none of it possible without contributions from a range of people. Pictured is our tired but happy democracy sausage team.

And finally, to wrap up the numbers, between the four Democracy Sausage team members at HQ we have eaten 7 Democracy Sausages, 1 Democracy bacon and egg roll, and 9 Democracy Cakes* *(includes honey joys).

Compared to 2022, there has been a nationwide swing to #DemocracySausage, with an increase of 5.2 percentage points in the estimated percentage of election day voters with access to #DemocracySausage. The largest swing was in NSW with a 10.5 percentage point increase.

Once adjusted for the estimated percentage of election day voters, ACT was the leading state/territory, with 86.5% of voters able to access a #DemocracySausage, compared to 48.6% nationwide.

Australia-wide, there were 2,659 sites with #DemocracySausage and 1,536 with #DemocracyCake available. As expected, the more populous states had a higher count of sausage and cake.

Nationwide, we’ve had information about 3,622 polling places, representing 64.8% of today’s estimated voters (This includes sites where we heard no noms were available.).
