Happy Birthday, Elvis. Loved Luhrmann's 2022 take on the Elvis myth for rescuing Vegas Elvis from the wireless snobs. He portrayed the King moulding a powerful and influential fusion of gospel, rock and soul by bringing together the TCB band, Sweet Inspirations and the Imperials.

Kneecap is finely crafted, exhilarating entertainment. But more too. It accurately portrays the real challenges faced by minority languages and by post-conflict societies. It even suggests a way to bridge humanity's deep divisions. My review in the current @Cineaste_Mag

A generous intervention from a fantastic filmmaker who's also a fantastic guy - not least for his constant championing of diversity in cinema. If anyone in a similar position feels I can help, please get in touch. Filmmaking seems like an alien planet when you're on the outside.
So many young people I meet who're getting into filmmaking are middle class/from uni/have family in the arts If you don't come from those worlds, if you're working class + passionate about cinema, and wld like zoom chat, DM me Am not offering work, just encouragement/perspective

Today remember the 2,996 US citizens who died on 9/11 as well as the over 300,000 Iraqi civilians who died during the U.S. invasion for something they didn’t do. This song, “No One Left” was written for all of them.

This finish to "The E Street Shuffle" would get the dead dancing. Anthony Almonte and @EStreetMax are on fire.
Memorable DC Moment 4: @springsteen, @EStreetMax and Anthony Almonte go into overdrive to end “The E Street Shuffle.” springsteen

The ever-excellent @SecondCaptains was especially interesting and informative this week with the very personable @JanCarson7280 talking about growing up as a evangelical Protestant in unionist Ballymena. Looking forward to reading her books now.
Well, that was an absolute pleasure! Listen back to one of the stars of the series @JanCarson7280 via the link below or wherever you get your podcasts 💛 https://t.co/uMf4osvqBe

“A nation is a very complex thing. It never does consist; it never has consisted solely of men of one blood or one single race , it is like a river, rising in the hills with many sources, many converging streams, that become one great stream.” Roger Casement 1905 #RogerCasement

Love the way our medalists are all diff- townies, posh birds from Sligo, weird English/Irish people, Cork langers, nordies and hopefully a black a girl from Tallaght I feel so proud to be from this godforsaken rock 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

A lovely story about the key value of family and music in our lives. Do listen. It also brings me back to the first time myself and Felim met Hollywood legend Robert Towne. A brilliant character. https://t.co/qRxHlZtrxK

Missing the inter-county championship already.
Ludicrous, ludicrous moment of genius from Clare's All-Ireland winning captain, Tony Kelly #rtegaa #gaa #hurling #tonykelly #clare

Liking @shrapnelpodcast. It's enjoyable company, challenging and opinion-changing. A necessary antidote to the frequently simplistic (never mind sanctimonious and superior- minded) commentary about Loyalist communities on this platform. Recommended

Film of the boy from NJ recording "It Was A Very Good Year.' Fantastic. Even better is his reaction listening back, he knows it's stunning. Surely one of the greatest @StevieVanZandt?

Great idea. 👇Older fans will remember the faces of many on the great Cork and Clare teams of 90s and early 2000s. Definitely added to the passion and drama. I'll never forget being in Thurles seeing The Rock's face as he powered through half back lines https://t.co/c6t9vYr3r8

It would be cool if they flashed up graphics with player headshots during the hurling. Granted I'm only a passive hurling fan but the Clare team could pass me on the street and I wouldn't know 90% of them because of the helmets. Just a quick mock-up but something like this:

What an end to what has been a really entertaining championship. Class final and some class words from the GAA president at the end. Maith thú Jarlath.
GAA President Jarlath Burns with a message more important than ever after the All-Ireland Final. “For those who are our diaspora, who left this country because of war and famine, whose ancestors had to leave…and we thank the country’s who took you in and gave you jobs” 👏👏

All the “patriots” exposing their racism on an island occupied entirely by immigrants and descendants of immigrants. Irishness is not decided by skin colour. And it certainly isn’t adjudicated by racists. I’d take any one of these over 100,000 Irish racists any day.
