I suggested we go live on TikTok. To my surprise, one of the gold miners I know joined and gifted her a whole gram of gold. Her first question? “What can I do with this?” — proof of her inquisitive spirit.

“What's your name? And what do you do?”.That’s how my day started — with a simple question from an 8-year-old girl. I told her my name and explained that we are the people who test rocks, minerals, and soils. She was wide-eyed. She didn’t know such a profession even existed.

As we walked, I showed her the rocks around us and explained their types. Later, while sitting with her father, we even talked about the economic possibilities of the rocks in their area. (A story for another day).
