🐰 Hopping into Easter with William De Morgan’s energetic rabbit/hare designs. 🐇. In these examples, mostly from our collection, they are springing away from a curious blue bear, eye to eye with a Sphinx, being pounced upon by an eagle and leading a three rabbit race.

The obituaries May wrote about Evelyn and William speak to the regard she had for them. At the request of Evelyn she wrote a memoir of William in The Burlington Magazine. And after Evelyn’s death described her as possessing ‘masculine bonhomie […] with a man’s intelligence’.

Seeking an alternative to the Art Workers Guild, which did not accept female members until 1964, May founded the Women’s Guild of Art in 1907. Evelyn joined the Women’s Guild early, allowing her in May’s words ‘… to meet women who are not playing at art’.
