For anyone trying to understand the current crisis in UKHE, this from @CrisShore is today’s #mustread. My conclusion: get the management consultants out of our universities
One reason why UK universities are in such a dire state is because they're increasingly being captured by management consultants. This article explains why this is happening: https://t.co/cRXUlsuIuG

Solidarity + @GoldsmithsUoL colleagues at devastating news of redundancies + destruction of @SociologyGold As former external examiner, I saw how critical, creative, lively ethos inspired students + hugely shaped my teaching and research. A terrible loss https://t.co/3ayh4l0CHZ

#overlookedwomen Our sociologists’ wives research is helping to set the record straight about whose shoulders British sociologists are standing on. Wives collected and analysed data, edited and co-authored. Visit our website to find out more. https://t.co/DxioRU6ZYh

My university is officially planning to switch our workload to 70% teaching and 20% research, which their own EDI impact assessment says is bad for minoritised staff. So that’s lovely news in the middle of marking! Why do we want to do all that pesky research anyway?

So me & my sister started a podcast - The Hopeful Reader! This introductory episode explores the potential of alternative world making through fiction, the importance (& constraint) of imagination, as well as thinking about reading as a method of ‘slow refusal’

My university is making staff redundant and the consultants senior management have hired couldn’t even manage to remove our letterhead before doing exactly the same thing at Goldsmiths. Really says it all about the competency of the people tasked with destroying universities.
@TeemuTaira Oh god this is horrific. Did you know at Goldsmiths our management gave us documents for our redundancy process that had left in “University of Kent” by accident??? 🤦🏾♀️ Cut & paste job being done to follow your suit. Solidarity ❤️✊🏿🔥

My university is proposing that from now on research should only form 10% of our workload. So glad to know that senior management think doing research is some kind of optional extra for academics, bet that will really pay off in the next REF
