Rogue One (2016)
I'm not the physical actor on screen at the door, but that's my voice.
I screamed the lip-synch as an overdub, as production sound was deemed unusable due to on-set noise.
What a scene!

might be my favorite game dev experience of all time. I started in December of 2002 as the game's "Audio Lead." I was to head up all sound, music and voice-over efforts. "You're responsible for everything that comes out of the speakers." I was 27.
Movies have always been a magic trick. The illusion of movement.
Chapter 6 of
#TheBookOfBobaFett
might be the biggest magic trick I’ve seen in my lifetime, created by talented magicians in service of story.
#IndustrialLightandMAGIC
Kylo’s and Rey’s themes are mirror opposites. One is practically the reverse of the other, with only slight modifications. The last three notes of Kylo’s theme are the first three of Rey’s, and then they continue in reverse: Rey ending up, Kylo down.

Thrilled to be back performing VO on

with the most talented crew in the galaxy. Heck, I’d take an arrow in the eye to do it 🎯
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that after today’s release of

I don't know if it made the final cut for the game, but I recorded a script with this soldier reaction line to Palpatine entering the battle:
"It's the Emperor! Watch out, he's deceptively spry!"
New episode of
@starwars
#TheBadBatch
tonight. It’s one of my favorite animated episodes of all time, and I’ve been looking forward to its release for months.
Get ready!
“This is where the fun begins!”
Years ago I started a journey with elite clones as the sound designer on Republic Commando. It’s been pure joy coming full circle as the sound designer, editor and mixer on Star Wars: The Bad Batch, premiering tomorrow on May the 4th. (1/2)
Thrilled to finally share that I’m the re-recording mixer and co-sound editor on the second episode of
#ObiWan
, which is the back half of this week’s premiere. It’s been an honor to be a part of the crew at
@skywalkersound
!
20 years ago today we released
#StarWarsBountyHunter
on the Playstation 2. This was one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding projects during my 10 years at
#LucasArts
. I’m still so proud of it (though I wish I could go in and revisit this game’s audio in 2022!)
#gameaudio
How about that new Obi-Wan theme?
(Spoilers) 🎶🎼🎵🎶
>
>
>
- minor setting of force theme
- opening phrase close to Qui-Gon’s theme in TPM
- contains piece of the main title
- at one point contains a minor sixth leap, loosely connecting it w Skywalker saga (and Leia)
Thoughts?
@DavidWCollins
The orchestration is phenomenal. Themes from previous films especially The Force Awakens are further developed. Absolutely immersive. One of the best Star Wars scores and one of my very favorite things about the new movie.
Guilty of voicing these along with
@SamWitwer
True story: by the time we got to Solo I was actually asked to scrub through the latest cut and FIND a place to put this gag (snuck it in during the Mimban trench, and I wrote an homage to Temple of Doom)

Surprise!
@starwars
#GalaxyOfSounds
released today on
@disneyplus
. These sonic/visual poems are a celebration of the amazing work of the sound artists at
@skywalkersound
, and were made in collaboration w LFL. Each 5.1 shot is faithful and pure to its original creation. Enjoy!
Our first journey to Kamino was almost 20 years ago. I keep thinking about this tonight, as we’re only a few hours away from the season 1 finale of

@starwars
@skywalkersound
When we were making
#StarWarsBattlefrontII
in 2005, we had to write new dialog for whenever playable hero characters entered a battle.
My favorite line (courtesy of Monkey Island writer Mike Stemmle) was "It's Count Dooku! Watch out, he's deceptively spry!!"
I hope you all enjoy
#StarWarsVisions
! Can finally share that I served as the composer of the show's opening logo music, & as sound designer/supervising sound editor on 4 episodes (Duel, Twins, Village Bride, Elder).
A wonderful collaboration w LFL & these amazing studios!!🎵🎙️
"Star Wars Bounty Hunter" released in Nov 2002, 1 week after Ep II on DVD. Proud of this game, was a formative career experience. One of the hardest things I'd ever done at the time. Gave it my all, & became a better designer and editor because of it.
#LucasArtsMemories

I accepted the challenge of editing sound for this new episode of
#TheBookOfBobaFett
with great interest. Can’t wait for you all to see/hear it!
@skywalkersound
Both the TROS theme and Anakin’s theme are in Lydian mode (major scale w a
#4
) and contain fragments of other themes. Lydian is a mode that is used in Yoda’s theme as well, so both are tied into the force.
#TheRiseOfSkywalker
Why does The Rise of Skywalker theme feel like a companion piece to Anakin's theme in The Phantom Menace? Is there a similarity, or just the common creator? If I'm not just imagining and there is a common thread, I'm sure
@DavidWCollins
will figure it out for
@SoundtrackHSW
! ;-)
So far, Vader has a 2-note motif in
#ObiWan
, rolling through the series like a tank.
Fun that those two notes are also the same two notes at the start of Obi's new theme, spelling out a simple minor 3rd.
Amazing how context & orchestration changes everything.

“The Solitary Clone:
Sometimes you only have 1 second to express an idea, but that second is so important. The tank sequence is such a cool setup, so I spent a lot of time creating a fun “Shot-Zip-THONK-Rumble-BOOM” payoff (1/4)
All that heavy timpani in the orchestral score of
#TheRiseOfSkywalker
is performed by percussionist Don Williams, John Williams’ brother. He wrote some thunderous passages for this film. These recordings feel like a family jam!
The last four notes in the low brass of
#TheRiseOfSkywalker
trailer is straight up Dies Irae, but placed in a major key, giving it a Lydian, wondrous quality. Cool!!
@starwars
When I hear a new musical theme, my brain asks why: why did the composer make the choices they made?
Sometimes I make cool realizations. Other times I find random stuff that’s just amusing and too nerdy of a stretch to be valid.
For example: the new JW theme for
#ObiWan
(1/3)
A note about HK-47 from KOTOR: that performance happened almost by accident. Every line in KOTOR's script included director notes in parenthesis at the top of each line. According to Darragh, VO actor Kristoffer Tabori (while trying on HK-47) decided to read them as a joke (1/2)
How great is this?!
We are living through such a golden age of
@starwars
. The kid in me just can’t get over it and never would’ve believed it. So exciting
So much fun doing sound on ep 14 of

The classic saturation and flanging on Ben Burtt’s original ANH blasters is so iconic! Had to use them. And I busted out the original game sound for Scorch’s DC17 that I made 18 years years ago.
@skywalkersound
When
@starwars
Bounty Hunter wrapped, the team signed about 100 posters. I found mine in storage yesterday. Happy when older game projects find new life, I hope there’s more to come!

I was shaken by the death of Kamino, so I wanted it to to sound like a character. I treated the ronking, groaning metallic braaams you hear to sound like a dying animal, or crying whale song 😭😭
The "Main Title" music in
@starwars
was originally conceived as Luke Skywalker's theme in 1977. It's obviously evolved in meaning over the years, but perfect that it's used so heavily in
#TheRiseOfSkywalker
trailer as a heroic symbol of the entire Skywalker legacy.
#NineOperas
#StarWarsVisions
was a true team effort at
@skywalkersound
. Luke Dunn Gielmuda and I partnered on SFX, and he was such an inspiring collaborator. Powerful mix by Danielle Dupre, and Foley walked by the legend Jana Vance w Richard Duarte. And that’s just on The Duel!
Some thoughts on creative dialog processing in
#TheBadBatch
:
Tawni Ames is wearing a mask that is a distant cousin to Leia’s Boushh disguise. Because of this, among other things I lightly used the same process: ring modulation. (1/4)

I once shared a scene with Jason Sudeikis. Well… at least my voice did.

One of the most imaginative interpretations of a scene in all of
@starwars
sound design. One of the few times in my life that I heard audible reactions from a crowd in a movie theater based on sound alone. Including my own!
@skywalkersound
Working on this show has been so special. A continuation of themes explored as a sound designer in my 20s at LucasArts, & an inspiration during the pandemic.
Glad to be back for season 2 as co-supervising sound editor, sound designer and re-recording mixer for
@skywalkersound
The first Battlefront was one of my very first voiceover gigs. A year later, I was the audio lead on the second game at
#LucasArts
(shortly after finishing Republic Commando and Ep3 the game).
So excited and happy that they're being re-released! Hooray for
@LucasfilmGames
!!!
Editing the sound effects on chapter 2 of
#TheBookOfBobaFett
was one of the most challenging, rewarding, and delightfully geeky things I’ve ever done.
I ❤️

so much. What an honor!
@skywalkersound
I must give a hand to
@DavidWCollins
and the sound team that revived my favorite Lucasfilm sound effect in the latest Boba Fett episode: the tech-y explosion at 1:36 in this clip

Sad to learn it’s over, but so, so happy that season 1 happened. I will be forever grateful.
This was pure joy to work on, and I absolutely love the cast and crew. Huge shout-out to all

questies, and everyone at Lucasfilm. It was a dream come true!
The
#StarWarsVisions
logo music was a wonderful collaboration w LFL. It opens w stacked 5ths to represent a blank canvas. The dorian melody (solo horn) starts in D minor & switches to G major. Dark Side/Light Side. The end harp has a

lydian, signifying open-ended possibility.
Proud & honored to be the sound editor & re-recording mixer on the amazing
#StarWarsResistance
team. 22 episodes of

droids, racers, explosions, ships, blasters, creatures & machines. Excited for everyone to see and hear the season 1 finale tomorrow!
@skywalkersound
I asked
@skywalkersound
if I could supervise
@WillowOfficial
because I love the original. I soon learned that a designer I’ve always admired asked for the exact same reason. A joyous fellowship was born.
The sound designer on Willow is David Farmer of Lord of The Rings fame!
Not dies irae, but chord arpeggios outlining Leia's theme (on first listen, that's what I hear). Starting at the root, descending D major w a Bb (flat 6) passing tone, then G minor w an A passing tone. The whole trailer is Skywalker-driven in terms of themes
#TheRiseOfSkywalker
While we're on the subject of ST
@starwars
musical motifs:
Rose Tico's theme is a variation on the force theme. But it's obscured by it's major mode (instead of dorian/minor), and displacement by a beat (pickup is on downbeat).
I just learned that John Williams is premiering his Violin Concerto No. 2 this weekend at Tanglewood. Though he’s famous for his film scores, a new violin concerto from Williams is kind of a big deal, since his first is marked by tragedy (thread):
I started at the scoring stage of
@skywalkersound
as an intern in 1999, and it’s been the adventure of a lifetime ever since. Last night Lucasfilm celebrated 20, 30 and 40-year service awards. Congrats to the classes of 2000, 2001, 1990, 1991, and 1980!
#LucasArts
ANDOR and OBI-WAN KENOBI will have a physical release on April 30! The 4K and Blu-Rays will feature collectible packaging, concept art, and special features, including director’s commentary
Pre-Clone Wars, I remember being in the recording studio when
@JATactor
recorded the VO for these scenes in 2004, thinking “Wow, he’s an INCREDIBLE Obi-Wan!”
The alternate ending to the Revenge of the Sith tie-in video game is still absolutely insane, LucasArts was WILD for this one back in 2005.
A really fun “What If?” for the Star Wars universe that isn’t talked about enough.
