The USGS has posted a focal mechanism solution for the M7.3 Alaska earthquake. These are based on seismic observations and can identify the type of Earthquake, but they show two possible fault orientations, one of which is real. This one shows an E-W and NW-SE fault. #geology

A 7.3 Magnitude earthquake recently occurred in the Alaskan forearc west of the Shumagin Islands. The aftershock sequence appears to trend mostly east-west suggesting a fault in that orientation. #earthquakes #Geology @EcuGeology
