The bass is everything in Reggae music and Robbie Shakespeare played his bass guitar like nobody else; he made the beat drop, speaker boxes shook and we rocked.His passing is a tragic loss; his contribution to the genre is immeasurable. RIP Robbie Shakespeare.

We have lost Millie Small, the first Jamaican artist to achieve international pop chart success in countless countries with ‘My Boy Lollipop’. The song was so popular that it made her a household name in the UK in 1964 and blazed the way for the recognition of Ska music.

RIP Peter Simons aka Penny Reel who was one of the first British journalists to document Reggae music from both Jamaica and the UK through his columns in NME and Black Echoes in the early 70’s . he’s on far right next to John Holt.

RIP Johnny Nash the silky voiced Texas soul singer who fell in love with Jamaica and Reggae music in 1967 recording two of his biggest hits ‘Hold Me Tight’ & ‘Cupid’ at Federal Studio in Kingston. He worked with Bob Marley bringing him to the UK on one of his first tours.

Truly saddened to learn of the death of Pat Kelly, one of Reggae’s most soulful singers and a true gentleman. He recorded numerous hits most notably ‘How Long Will It Take’ which was the big number one single in the summer of ‘69. He leaves behind a great legacy of music.
