Netflix's 'Untamed,' with Eric Bana and Rosemary DeWitt, looks like another enjoyable mystery thriller, but sheesh, screenwriters need to retire that beyond-tired trope of alcoholic, reclusive cop with dead kid. Been ridden harder than those trail horses.

Love the cabin up in Idyllwild, especially this week. Here's the view to my left as I write. The weather is perfect, the squirrels bushy tailed, and the quiet near-impenetrable. Awesome.

Long-overdue changes to California's film tax incentives, designed to keep more video production in state, are finally arriving. They'll make the state more competitive, but the particular politics mean they won't do all the industry wants.

Two California bills – one signed, another on the way – hope to remake the state's film incentive program with far more money and flexibility. But critics want more.
