No implementation is perfect and bugs happen. And the scenario here is definitely obscure! That said, when your security team declines to fix a trivial lock screen bypass *twice* after being externally reported, that is a real cause for concern.

If people expect developers to analyze the pedigree of every line of code that gets added for them, I think they will be disappointed. The appeal is that AI does all the work of programming for you, not that you have to do a thorough legal review.

I can’t find any mention of this as a feature or something I can turn off. My previous phone and my wife’s phone do not have this behavior. Does anyone have ideas?? 4/.

If I type my passcode very quickly after startup, the sound is not played. If I turn the volume all the way down, the sound still plays at normal volume level. If I toggle the external mute switch, the sound does not play, but the haptic bump still happens. 3/.

It doesn’t happen again until I turn the phone all the way off and back on. I know about the new power on/off sounds in Accessibility and this is NOT that. It sounds most like the built-in “Bamboo“ tone, but not quite. 2/.

I’m looking for anyone who can help track down a weird behavior… I got a new iPhone recently and find that shortly following the first time I type my passcode in after turning the phone on, there is a brief sound and haptic bump while the Home screen is shown. 1/.

I was curious how Project Volterra compared to an M1 mini; glad to see this article! No surprise a Microsoft MVP declares Microsoft the winner for Windows devs. That said, Volterra is likely subsidized and the mini is >2 years old. I wonder if this lasts?.

Yet some major tech companies are still massively investing in creating new office space while simultaneously slashing budgets and laying off employees. It’s a strange dichotomy that seems disconnected from reality.

On second thought, maybe it would be better if you did NOT display text under the close button.

Starts out a tad hyperbolic, perhaps, but I totally agree with the part about how cutting small perks and inconsequential expenses is a red flag. If there *is* a money problem, axing $100/year of employee morale budget isn’t likely to fix it.

When a company starts cutting employee perks as a cost-saving measure, that company is entering a death spiral from which there is no escape.

I get that this research is primarily concerned with “happiness”, but the joy of 30 minutes of writing code could easily be offset by the misery of three hours spent debugging it.

This post about research into Copilot contains zero instances of the words “bug”, “defect”, or “error”. My experience with copy/pasted code is it may succeed on the happy path, but often has design/implementation problems. That should not be ignored.

This RTINGS video does the best job demonstrating. To my eye, motion smoothing is noticeable with the logo at normal speed, but you’ve really got to be looking for it in the movie or else slow by 12x. I’m having a hard time getting worked up about this.

OK, if you want me to care about motion smoothing, I need a decent demo. I just watched the most recommended YouTube video and they spent less than one second of the two minute 30 second run time showing on vs. off. Saying “soap opera effect“ over and over is not the answer.
