It’s becoming more and more common for gov’ts to make announcements on social media rather than at a press conference where it should be.
Journalists should be able to ask questions.
Gender identity can be a hard thing to talk about, especially when you are involved. But this conversation is extremely important and parental involvement is critical. Kids need to know we love and support them.
My message to all Albertans:
If/when vaccine passports are used in Alberta, how cool would it be if they are actual passports and each bar/restaurant/gym/store you show it at has its own stamp, like customs.

employee of the month ... landed in Houston and noticed my wallet was missing. She went back on the plane and found it and made sure we still made the connection to Tampa! THANK YOU!!!
I am now calling on all liberal democratic Albertans: vote for Rachel Notley and the NDP, who represent the public interest.

2 yrs ago I was in Thailand getting suits made and when the tailor, a Sikh, learned I was from Canada, he asked unprompted if I knew of a politician named Manmeet Bhullar. He said many Sikhs knew of him and cried when I said Manmeet died days before. Was a touching moment.

It was an extremely sad & tragic day 2 years ago today when MLA Manmeet Bhullar was struck & killed on Hwy 2 after he’d stopped to help other motorists in a snowstorm. We need more public servants & politicians who have such compassion & humanity.

Generally speaking, especially at government levels, Canadians are really bad at comms. Too many see themselves as gatekeepers of information rather than providers.
Talk of Alberta separating from Confederation is the equivalent of a 15-year-old wanting to live on their own. It isn't even remotely feasible.

A bit of personal news from me: I've resigned from the web team at CTV Calgary.
It came down to a matter of prioritizing my own mental health and self worth as a journalist.
Albertans who self isolate will be eligible for a payment of $572 from the province, part of a $50 million fund. Utility bills also on hold for three months:
Just heard that Barb Clifford, the longtime Chief Returning Officer for the city passed away yesterday. She talked like a sailor but was one of the most helpful, and hilarious, people at the hall. She will be missed.

Police and peace officers in Alberta will now be able to ticket people for not following COVID-19 guidelines. That includes anyone who has been diagnosed, has symptoms or has returned from international travel:
A friendly reminder for Calgarians with dogs and strollers and groups who think it's OK to take up the entire pathway when they're walking ... it's actually not.
Good questions from
@markusoff
, that back-and-forth is an example of why major government announcements should be done at a press conference, and not in a polished social media video released the day before.

Seven years ago today, I was unfortunately part of the mass layoffs at Postmedia. Couldn’t imagine at the time that wasn’t the end of my career but I’ve since worked in two other major newsrooms and am now teaching journalism at

… no matter what, things can get better!
Basically, management felt my comments in this story: were a violation of journalistic ethics which harmed my reputation and their brand, and I shouldn't cover the AGLC again.
They wanted me to sign a letter attesting to that.
I refused.

I think my comments were fair and informed on a relevant issue and don't detract at all from my work as a journalist. As a friend said to me: "isn't it the job of journalists to raise issues and ask questions?"
Left with no other options, I decided to resign.
Unpopular opinion: I don’t like polling during election periods. They’re largely not accurate and it shouldn’t matter how anyone else is going to vote, choose the party and platform you want to represent you.
