While such thoughts aren't necessarily incorrect, they should lead us to question our biases, look more deeply at the topic, and be willing to admit we're falling into an all-too-common pitfall.

It's tempting to fall into the trap of believing a single, secret and powerful group is behind the scenes pulling all of the strings. But the real world is far messier, chaotic, and unplanned than that.

So what do you do when you hear this, or catch yourself thinking that way? Get a good reality check. Give yourself a measure of grace, because the tendency to want to be "in the know" is very human and universal.

5️⃣ False cause and effect: "who benefits?" "there are too many coincidences for this to be random," "follow the money.".

4️⃣ Impossible standards of proof: "how do you explain. ," "just asking questions," "what are they hiding?".

3️⃣ Insider/Outsider language: "THEY get it. " "don't be a sheep," "the elite," or the all-powerful "They. ".

2️⃣ Rejecting standard explanations: "that's just what they want you to think," "nothing happens by accident," "the official story doesn't add up.".

Here are rhetorical patterns and their common catch phrases to watch out for:. 1️⃣ Claims of hidden knowledge: "what they don't want you to know," "connect the dots," "do your own research.".

It's super important in this digitally saturated world of ours to be alert to conspiracy theories and conspiratorial thinking. It can affect us all, regardless of political leaning or educational attainment.
