Director Kim Ki-young’s landmark film has influenced the likes of Bong Joon Ho and his brilliant PARASITE (2019). 2/2 #FilmTwitter

Ready to rewatch: THE HOUSEMAID (Korean, 1960), a harrowing tale of class division involving a middle-class family whose decision to hire a housemaid ushers in domestic terror. It’s a claustrophobic nightmare situation made more atmospheric by rainy scenes and looming danger.

Sometimes the best Saturday nights are spent in the kitchen with the other half of 30 years, cooking, having cocktails and watching college basketball. #SaturdayVibes

First watch: FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) A late-night TV host/‘vampire hunter’ played by Roddy McDowall is sought for help after a real vampire moves next door to one of his teenage fans. Disposable fun with a decent mix of #horror and humor. #FilmTwitter

Time for a burger, beer and a bit of bourbon @ the bar (and perhaps a bit of alliteration).

Much respect to actor Sidney Poitier, who would’ve been 99 today. His films live on to inspire us all. Hard to pick a favorite, but TO SIR, WITH LOVE is certainly a contender.

Not sure how I got this far in life without seeing what is considered as one of the best westerns ever made. It was absorbing start to finish. Ford’s direction is flawless, and Wayne (I’m not always his biggest fan) gives one of his best performances. 3/3

… to track down two nieces abducted after Comanches slaughter their family. The body count in this film rivals the most brutal noirs. Jeffrey Hunter as Wayne’s search companion and adoptive nephew is quite good. Enough cannot be said about the stunning cinematography … 2/3

First watch: THE SEARCHERS (1956), easily one of director John Ford’s best and most gorgeously filmed #westerns, with similar opening and closing shots as bookends. As Civil War veteran Ethan Edwards, John Wayne has atypical depth as a complex character trying.. 1/3 #FilmTwitter

One of my favorite #RobertDuvall films is the lesser-known TOMORROW (1972), a somber film based on a William Faulkner short story. It a poignant, quiet film about poverty and a southern farmer who takes in an abandoned pregnant woman. Quite beautiful. #FilmTwitter

I despise AI customer service. I usually end up in some irrelevant loop and find it nearly impossible to bypass it and get a human on the phone. This is not progress.

Paulette Goddard steals scenes as proprietor of an escort service. She’s just one of a few supporting characters who bring wit and snappy dialogue to what would otherwise be a routine script. I usually prefer Robinson as a bad guy, but he’s fine here as a good cop. 2/2

First watch: VICE SQUAD (1953). While not his best role, Edward G. Robinson’s turn as police Capt. Barnaby is worth a watch. It’s a day-in-the-life crime film with Barnaby seeking a cop killer while trying to thwart a bank heist. 1/2 #FilmTwitter
