Take action right now and sign @tearfund's petition. We want to send an urgent message to @RishiSunak that the UK Government must not backtrack, but stand by its promises and say precisely how and when it plans to pay up. https://t.co/2Hfdj2DLnv

The forestry service have just launched the consultation for the design of all forests in Co down. This is our chance to say how we want our forests to be managed in the coming decades. Please let me know if you want to help protect and enlarge our native forests.

No Anglo-Norman material finds, and no BIG MOUND, but little doubt this was adapted as important non-native site. How many other 'raths' might tell same story with paeleoecology?

Strategic position in uplands & intersection of routeways. Cros na Craoibhe ('cross of the branch/tree' @placenamesni) may = crossroads rather than ⛪ In 1282 Fitz Warin took refuge here when attacked by de Mandevilles, negotiated passage ⬇️ with Mac Artáin of Loughinisland

with 5 dependent 'villae' (ie dispersed settlements - no 'manorial village'). 1 likely at Ballyhanwood, from Hanwood (Shropshire), near Fitz Warin manor of Alberbury. Matthew de Hanewode witnessed grant of Alan Fitz Warin c. 1247, of land at Ballymoney (co. Antrim)

Crossnacreevy 'rath', c.8thC, Castlereagh hills. Ditch recut in 13thC, cereals grown in vicinity & scrub cleared for pasture. Good chance this was manorial centre of "Crosscarnavy" held by seneschal of Ulster, William Fitz Warin. Described as 'castrum' in 1282, burned in 1270s

I'm only a medievalist, but when all the bishops and archbishops, the justices, the heir to the throne, and 41% of your own retainers think you're wrong, maybe it's time to have a word with yourself?

This Saturday I'll be speaking about the dramatic events leading to the exile of the earl of Ulster in the early 13thC, his part in the crusade against the Cathars in Languedoc and his role in the siege of Toulouse - represented in amazing detail on this contemporary tomb frag

I still love the fact that Bluetooth was named after the 10th-century Danish King Harald 'Bluetooth' Gormsson, said to have had a dead tooth (or to have loved liquorice). He united the various tribes of Denmark, hence the name choice for a technology that is all about connecting.

Almost glad about the state of this "information board" (nothing to do with @UlsterScotsAgen) at #Dunseverick Castle, one of most important Dálriatan royal centres - at least the pseudohistorical mess about 'Fergus, king of Scotland' is completely illegible #Heritageweak

#UlsterScots heritage is important, but peddling long-debunked myth (right outside #Carrickfergus castle) as history isn't the way? @UlsterScotsAgen Manipulation of later king-lists, genealogy and annals to link kings of Scots to 'Irish' #DálRiata just as interesting 🤷‍♂️
