Last German to race the Indy 500? I believe a century ago. Mercedes 3 car factory entry in 1923. Max Sailer 8th, Werner 11th and Lautenschlager crashed. Caracciola practiced in 46 but had a biggie and never raced. Rindt raced 66 and 68, and while Austrian, was German born.

this is just an analysis piece, so some of it is interpretive. but in this RaceFans article, they reviewed the radio messages and suggest that: -mclaren likely spotted the first signs of the plank issue during the pre race reconnaissance laps, not mid race. -lando’s late drop
