HERETIC was the perfect execution of this kind of script. And the "Monopoly" scene was by far my favorite monologue of the year. Seek this out if you haven’t already. It rules.

While the movie itself has very little action, there were still several twists I did not see coming, and I found myself sitting forward in my seat in the theater, eagerly anticipating whatever was about to happen next.

This movie is confrontational without ever being off-putting and philosophical without ever coming across as preachy. Faith as a concept is put on trial and explored in such a way that it makes its point without ever beating you over the head or telling you exactly what to think.

I had been counting down to the release of this one for months, and it did not disappoint. Though all three leads gave amazing performances, Hugh Grant stole the show, making an entire meal out of every juicy line.

Instead we focused on a group of photojournalists over the course of a few days during the fall of an empire. Despite the subject matter, the film itself was not interested in making any grand political statements.

This movie fucking rocked my socks off. Beautifully shot. Very well acted. And the final push on DC toward the end was so loud in the theater I could feel it echoing in my bones. But this was not an action movie, per se.
