Something about this painting brilliantly illustrates the "aura" you feel when seeing a real fossil. Just the feeling that this animal was alive, so many millions of years ago, on the same planet we live on. The title furthers illustrates this in a poignant way.

From what we know, most of the large dinosaurs (the ones you picture when you think of a dinosaur) were by no means blobs of fat surrounding a skeleton. They had fat, sure, but evidence suggests you'd be able to discern the contours of their bodies well. They weren't whales.

Dinosaurs could probably produce a wide variety of sounds, with some perhaps making sounds similar to that of what people would think of as a roar. I think the whole "dinosaurs couldn't roar" sentiment is damaging - it should be "we don't know what sounds dinosaurs made".

Although in the past, certain paleoart may have "shrinkwrapped" reconstructions of dinosaurs, modern paleoart has largely accounted for this. These are real, heavily researched fields involving multiple disciplines to create an accurate view of the past. By no means a big guess.

Clearly, crocodiles can make more sounds than just "bellows and hisses" as is typically thrown about. So why couldn't dinosaurs make similar sounds? Also, if they possessed a syrinx, dinosaurs would be able to make even more complex vocalisations.

Counter point: most large animals today have very stark contrasting patterning, from birds to whales etc. It's clearly not "expensive" to maintain pigmentation, as otherwise we would not see multitonne animals today with stark contrasting dark patterning!

Multi-tonne prehistoric animals (especially carnivores) likely weren’t very extravagant & probably didn’t have huge display features. This is because of the probable metabolic costs of developing & maintaining bright, stark pigmentation & display features at large body sizes.
