Liverpool were on the end of a 3-0 defeat by Manchester City, but did a pivotal moment dramatically alter the course of the game?

Why does VAR get involved in some penalties but not others? Looking at: πŸ“Œ Doku's penalty vs. Liverpool πŸ“Œ Ouattara's first penalty claim πŸ“Œ Dowman vs. Leeds πŸ“Œ Considerations for the VAR πŸ“Œ Simulation and rescinded yellows https://t.co/MTRYzsIlL0

After last night's article, it's worth showing the clear difference between the Liverpool offside, and Man City's goal v Wolves which was onside through VAR. At no point is Bernardo Silva near the flight of the ball. Andrew Robertson ducked out of the path of the ball.

Another sensible non-handball decision in the Champions League. Arm out for balance, off the player's own body, no movement to create an obvious barrier for an opponent.

If the ball is clearly out when the review happens, play restarts with a corner (see Man United vs. Sunderland). In all other circumstances - ball still in play, borderline if in or out - restart is a dropped ball to the goalkeeper.

@DaleJohnsonBBC Hi Dale, do you know why, once the decision was made that it was not a handball, the outcome was a drop ball? The ball came off of Tchoumeni and then went off over the byline - so if not a free kick/penalty - should it not have been a Liverpool corner?

They review the position first. If the position is factually still outside the area, they can't check the foul/handball. If the position is factually inside the area, they can then check the foul/handball because it's a penalty incident.

@DaleJohnsonBBC My understanding was that they didn't and couldn't review the decision of a foul but just the position. Do you know for a fact the foul was reviewed like last night's handball? No qualms with the latter being overturned but just seems like different rules different competitions!

Comparisons made with Van Dijk-Ouattara, and why that foul became a penalty but the Real Madrid handball was overturned completely. It's a simple case of the challenge not being deemed clearly wrong (but certainly soft), while the handball was.

Sense prevails, and the least worst option has been chosen. Palace are spared 4 games in 8 days. But both Arsenal and Palace must play twice in three days, with KO 52 hours after FT in their Premier League games on the Sunday.

Also in last night's article. The can has been kicked down the road on any change to "daylight" offside. Ifab panels concerned that discussions are about tight VAR decisions rather than promoting attacking football. No official trials imminent. https://t.co/XTiSHXIHau
