I find this sculpture astonishing: it’s Etruscan, c. 3rd century BC, in Volterra, and popularly known as the ‘Ombra della sera’. One thinks of Giacometti, who certainly saw it, but only after he’d developed his own elongated sculptures. Had he seen others or coincidence?

Apropos of nothing, I stumbled upon this portrait of Henry the Pious, Duke of Saxony (1514), by Lucas Cranach the Elder in a book, and can't help but share his snazziness

Many thanks for the podcast review Daisy!
If you see condoms on a wall they're ready to reuse – or they were in the 18th century. I learned much from @JANUSZCZAK and @arthistorynews art podcast. Also reviewed in this week's @CultureHouse: a brilliant @BBCRadio4 doc about how the blind 'see' art

R.S., needless to say, did not emerge from this fine, atmospheric documentary as husband of the year. ✍️ Daisy Dunn https://t.co/3sO992SQyE

Love’s Moment is one of those quiet radio programmes you’re unlikely to have read about. It aired without fanfare at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, an understated yet engrossing one-off, half-hour documentary....

A new history of Carthage by Eve MacDonald portrays the civilisation of Rome's great early enemy. Classicist Daisy Dunn writes a splendid review. The ghost of Hannibal looms large. Napoléon was utterly fascinated by him.

Eve MacDonald’s history of Carthage offers a fascinating insight into the civilisation, which is all too often eclipsed

I had a fascinating discussion about the merits of seeing art in situ versus in galleries with Gabriele Finaldi, Director of @NationalGallery, and Nick Trend, travel journalist and author, @iiclondra. Slightly worried about what was going on behind me...
