Just trying to learn and share some daf yomi (daily page of Talmud) + other Jewish content

A tough one for sneaker culture in today's daf: the argument for wearing shoes is between a) avoiding pain and b) seeking comfort. Nowhere in there are factors of freshness or status! #DafYomi #Shabbat61

The city whose buildings are higher than the shul will be destroyed. Ezra 9:9 "To uplift the house of our G and restore its ruins." Reminds me of something my dad said: "You can see who has power in society by who has the tallest buildings." What about now? #DafYomi #Shabbat11

"Prepare to meet your G, Israel" (Amos 4:12) used to ask how do we actually prepare to meet G? Special socks? Special garment? (Both of those from the daf)... How do we prepare ourselves to meet G in prayer?? #DafYomi #Berakhot10

R Hiya bar Ashi says Torah scholars don't rest in this world or in the world to come bc they're always going from strength to strength. Great berakhot siyum: Not a Torah scholar, but reading the daf every day has def reduced rest and brought me great strength #DafYomi #Berakhot64

Torah is only acquired through studying in a group! Based on the word 'hasket' in Deuteronomy 27:9. LOVE this. We only acquire Torah knowledge when it a) brings us together and b) we study it from a variety of perspectives and life experiences #DafYomi #Berakhot63

One may not use the Temple Mount as a shortcut... Saw this play out live at JTS's sanctuary. Some students/faculty hold they can cut through as it expedites their trip; others hold it is best to take the long way to avoid it. What do you say? #DafYomi #Berakhot62

Gen 2:22 "And the 'tzela' G took from man and made woman." Rabbis argue if 'tzela' means face or tail/rib. How does Gen 5:2 fit in, "G made male and female, G made them?" Gotta say, women's and non-binary voices sorely missing from this discussion #DafYomi #Berakhot61

Nisim b’chol Yom (blessings for daily miracles) reflect one’s morning routine in the time of the Talmud, waking up, opening eyes, getting out of bed, getting dressed, etc. How do these blessings change now that their customarily recited in shul? #DafYomi #Berakhot60

כִּי קָאֵי מַאי אוֹמֵר? — אָמַר רַב אַחָא: ״בָּרוּךְ … רוֹפֵא חִנָּם״. As for bloodletting, the Gemara asks: When one stands after having let blood, what does he say? Rav Aḥa said: He recites in gratitude: Blessed…Who heals without payment. #DafYomi #Berakhot60

When you see a rainbow, fall on your face (Ezekiel 1:28) in reverence of G’s creation but be careful not to appear like you’re bowing to it bc that would be idol worship aha gotcha! #DafYomi #Berakhot59
