A warm meeting w/ President Mahmoud Abbas. We discussed the vital role @UNRWA plays in the lives of #PalestineRefugees — especially in 🇱🇧, where no other service provider operates. President Abbas expressed his support for UNRWA’s mandate & the continuation of its essential work.

Productive exchange in Damascus with Yarmouk’s newly elected local committee, GAPAR, and @UNRWA Field Directors for Syria & Jordan. We reviewed urgent needs. Yarmouk—once home to 150,000 #PalestineRefugees—was devastated in 2018. There is hope recovery can now begin.

Appreciated the opportunity to meet Brig. Gen. Rodolphe Haykal, Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces. We discussed @UNRWA’s work and challenges in 🇱🇧, as well as efforts to improve living conditions and livelihoods for #PalestineRefugees. Grateful for LAF’s continued support.

In #EinElHilweh Camp w/ Ian Martin, Head of UN Strategic Assessment of @UNRWA, & Amb. Ramez Dimashkieh, Chair of @LPDCommittee. They saw the tough conditions #PalestineRefugees face & UNRWA’s critical role in education, healthcare, water & stability for 50K residents.

Pleased to meet Minister of Education Rima Karami to discuss areas of cooperation and challenges in ensuring education access for #PalestineRefugees in 🇱🇧; among those attending school, 70% are in @UNRWA schools, 17% in private, and 9.5% in public schools.

In Burj Barajneh camp & Siblin Training Centre, with #EUinLebanon, the delegation met youth benefiting from EU-funded skills training. They saw how these programs are creating opportunities for #PalestineRefugees and learned about their daily realities.
