I stand by believing that playing great and losing would L have been better than winning that way.

I always find it curious when players/coaches say “winning is the only thing that matters”. Last night’s game is why it doesn’t hold up in a regular season game. In the playoffs, sure. But if you’re not playing well, what chance will have when the games get tougher?

Looks like the Bombers will clinch a playoff spot tonight with Edmonton’s impending loss. If Calgary loses tomorrow then finishing 2nd in the West is in play (improbable as that may be).

Bombers make three changes…as expected from what we saw at practice. Gavin Cobb comes in for Demski, Keric Wheatfall returns to the lineup for Mitchell and Demerio Houston back at corner.

Bombers declare Nic Demski OUT for Friday’s game vs. the Riders. He injured his hamstring in the first half of last week’s game.

If there is no possibility of a tie why does the CFL have "Standings Tiebreaker Rules"? https://t.co/jqgDq4NO5R
cfl.ca
When two or more member Clubs are tied in the final Division standings in points (PTS) at the conclusion of the regular season schedule, preferential ranking for playoff purposes shall be determined...
@DTonOB There is no possibility of a 4-way tie. As you noted, the Bombers would finish 5th... so not tied. Learn how rankings in the CFL work.

CFL Teams are 38-15 when kicking off twice in a game (2018-present). We note teams that kicked off twice and won were leading at halftime 35 times, trailing 13 times and tied 5 times. So, selection bias would appear to be a big factor in the final record.
Good follow-up question from @ih8winnipeg: Teams that kickoff twice in a game are 38-15 in that span. The Bombers are 17-4.

The CFL appears to use a single tiebreaker to break all the ties possible, not just the first tie. So in the 9-9 scenario BC gets 2nd with a 4-3 record and Winnipeg gets 5th with a 3-4 record. Then because Edmonton and Calgary are 4-4 they return to the top to break *that* tie.
@DTonOB Does Winnipeg not finish 4th in a four way tie because they own the tiebreaker with Edmonton? The tiebreaker resets every time a position is confirmed

Confirmed with the league that a win on Friday isn’t enough to get the Bombers a playoff spot. There’s still the remote possibility of a 4-way tie at 9-9 that would see the Bombers finish 5th. Bombers will need an Elks loss or tie. Or a Calgary win or tie.

Vaval is back returning punts here in practice. That feels like a very good sign.
Returner Trey Vaval is dressed and taking part in stretch. Hopefully he’s good to participate after injuring his neck (head?) in Saturday’s game. #Bombers
