‼️Water treatment plants at capacity: Central Iowa Water Works is now calling for a voluntary minimum 50 percent reduction in all residential and commercial lawn watering to help alleviate water supply challenges caused by high nitrate concentrations in raw source waters.

Did you know? A crabapple tree has a life span of about 30-40 years. Our Grounds staff grafts the old varieties in Des Moines Water Works Park so the legacy of Arie den Boer may live on. About 60% of the trees inside the arboretum will be in full bloom by April 18-20.

Crabapple watch update: About 10 percent of the crabapple trees inside the Arie den Boer Arboretum are now in full bloom! There are close to 200 varieties and 700 trees in the arboretum. The main entrance to the park across from Gray’s Lake has reopened!

Some of the early bloomers in the Arie den Boer Arboretum inside Des Moines Water Works Park could be popping by the weekend with the expected warmer weather. The arboretum is home to more than 700 crabapple trees that represent 200 varieties.
