Absolutely *delighted* to share this @HPRU_BBSTI editorial with you published in @STI_BMJ - Race to address sexual health inequalities among people of Black Caribbean heritage: could co-production lead to more culturally appropriate guidance and practice?

- Communities’ leadership roles need to be made core in all HIV plans and programmes and in their formulation, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. -Communities’ leadership roles need to be fully and reliably funded.

What I often see lacking though are RESOURCES and REGULATORY HURDLES which might otherwise enable community-based organisations to scale their efforts, expand the reach of their programmes, and lead on them.

Over the past 15 years, I've seen the benefits of taking a strengths/assets-based approach which:.- RECOGNISES the knowledge and skills community-based organisations and their members and.- RESPECTS the equal value of lived, living and learned experience.

On this World AIDS Day, as I reflect on our collective approaches to designing, delivering and evaluating the care and support we offer with and for people with HIV-related needs, it is so inspiring to draw on the bold and important messaging from UNAIDS - LET COMMUNITIES LEAD.

Thank you @DrNnekaNwokolo and @SophiaForum. Absolutely, the data becomes a tool if we use it! Looking forward to working with @EACSociety WAVE group and many others with vast experience and expertise to co-produce a way to improve accessibility of HIV testing for migrant women.

Excellent presentation from @TJCurtis84 on his PhD research exploring heterosexual identifying MSM. Important to tailor messaging and services that speaks to intersectional identities and people whose sexual identity and behaviours may differ #eacs2023 @UCLPopHealthSci

Excellent example of a national campaign telling like it is. HIV stigma is the biggest barrier to HIV prevention, testing and care. Engaging, clear messaging, informative and to the point. Bravo @THTorguk 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.

PREMIERE: It’s time to watch the first TV advert on HIV in almost 40 years — made proudly in partnership with @scotgov. We’ve made huge medical progress in the fight against #HIV since the 1980s. But abhorrent stigma remains a significant issue today. Please watch and share.

I am thrilled to support this initiative and the actions that follow. @UNAIDS has some excellent and evidence-based guidance for different settings to eliminate HIV-related stigma and discrimination.

There is simply ZERO sense in turning a blind eye or ‘deprioritising’ what is arguably, the biggest challenge facing the HIV mission. I really don't think we can make it make sense to continue to brush over stigma.

My later study of Behavioural Epidemiology + international HIV surveillance and policy work has shown me that the failure to take OWNERSHIP of and ADDRESS the intractable impact of stigma and discrimination also limits global efforts in HIV prevention, testing and care.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working WITH and FOR people living with HIV, which means that I’ve heard countless first-hand accounts of HIV-related stigma and the devastating consequences of discrimination.

In the noughties (!), I studied Medical Anthropology, through which I learned the theory of health-related stigma and came to understand that the socio-cultural implications of HIV would be hardest to overcome and would impact individuals and communities.
