River Red Gums are a refuge in our land of droughts & flooding rains. Their roots reach down deep into the water table (usually > 10 m), drawing water to the surface to sustain an oasis! Here's why you should give a nod of respect to a River Red Gum this #ThickTrunkTuesday 1/7

River Red Gum full of hollows in all shapes & sizes, wrapped in thick, loose bark with gaps &f crevices to shelter small bodies. On this cold, wet, windy day I wonder how many lives snuggle up within its stoic embrace. #ThickTrunkTuesday in Newstead, on Dja Dja Wurrung Country

New research published today in @SpringerNature shows that mature eucalyptus trees don’t increase their growth with increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which was expected to boost plant growth, due to soil microbes restricting their access to the essential nutrient
