"Welcome to Hell! There's the boiling pool, the flaying zone, the unraveler—" "What will you do to me?" "You'll watch." "What?" "Hell is...disorganized. Someone with your efficiency obsession is sure to spy ways to improve it." "You want me to fix Hell?" "That's not what I said."

Here's the first installment of my case against landing human beings on Mars. You may think you disagree, but I'm going to talk you around.

It's slow, expensive, the engineering is mostly port-a-potty chemistry, and the best-case outcome is that thirty years from now we’ll get to watch someone remotely operate a soil scoop from Mars...

The western margin of North America has long been dominated by subduction and dextral transtension. This animation attempts to simplify a complex tectonic interaction through cross sections. https://t.co/z3LDsZ5G5L

@NFIDvaccines @SaadOmer3 @DrPaulOffit My message to a room of scientists: "When will you start paying attention to sociology research as a REAL & valid scientific field & trying to understand cognitive bias & sociology & the rest of it? It's LONG PAST DUE." @PeterHotez knows it—he's been screaming it for years. 13/x

> The office is still seen by many as some sort of ā€œnaturalā€ environment for humans as if we stepped from the Great Plains of Africa straight into a world designed by Hermann Miller. Nothing about the office is natural. Love this piece.

This whole thread is @polotek at his best. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about why we give up power when it is given to us and I think this conversation has a lot to do with it. I’ve been calling a lot of the reasons managerial work sucks the triangle of tension.

A big part of my argument around these things is that managers don't have all of the power, but they do have power. And it's important for middle managers to understand what power they have and to wield it thoughtfully and intentionally.

We all know about carcinization: shelled creatures with many legs tend to evolve into crabs. But have you heard of mustelification? It's a phenomenon where carnivorans develop slender bodies, short legs and small triangular heads. In other words, they evolve into weasels.

Bruce Boynton died today. A lot of people don't know his name but he is evidence of how recent slavery was. It's SUCH a crazy, mindblowing story that's centered on a Black woman who I've argued might be the MOST important person in Civil Rights history A thread.

Appreciate you so much, @brokeymcpoverty. All the criticisms are valid. The sheer tonnage of complexities & failings of these people I couldn’t get. Or wrestled with but cut. I took 6 years and fit as much as I could in a 2.5 hour musical. Did my best. It’s all fair game.

im late w the hamilton criticism stuff & im clearly biased but.. i really like that this conversation is happening. hamilton the play and the movie were given to us in two different worlds & our willingness to interrogate things in this way feels like a clear sign of change
