Lil Yachty shares his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop:
“Hip-hop is in a terrible place. The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. It’s a lot of quick, low-quality music being put out. It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality…People are too
it is official, “breakin’” will be an event at the 2024 olympics in paris. congrats to crazy legs, cros one, and all the bboys n bgirls from day one who lead to this moment. hopefully this goes well, it is in the right hands. it’s just begun... ✌🏻
Rest in Peace TRACY 168.
“Wild Style is a way of life.”
Although he did not get his just due n appreciation during these hip hop 50 celebrations, those who know, have been celebrating n influenced by what Tracy helped pioneer. ✌🏻

@llcoolj

Did you know Gang Starr remade Play That Beat by Globe n Whiz Kid? Soo dope. I got to watch them make this at DND studio in 98/99. tag or RT this for Gang Starr fans. one of the best yet... 👊🏻
RIP Phife 🙏🏻 6 years ago today we were painting in Brooklyn when we found out. I added this last minute. Tribe is one of the greatest things in hip hop history. Thank you Phife, you are missed. He was only 45. 😔
You can win.
A group of us, graffiti writers, beat a billionaire in an 8yr long legal battle n trial in federal court because he destroyed our work out of malice. Set legal precedent using the VARA act of 1990. First ever graff case to go to trial.
We won. Graff is art. ✌🏻
Congrats to DJ RED ALERT on 40yrs of bringing us hip hop music on radio. He was such a huge part of our youth n inspires all of us. One of the few DJs i trust musically. Nicest guy you’ll meet. Thank you Uncle Red for everything. Ultimate respect to this man. 🙌🏻🎧📈
1 time i spun for Raekwon. i asked which songs to spin. He said, “strictly classics.” Show starts he yells play a classic! I play Cream. Crowd goes wild. He says, “nah, nah. white boys love that shit. play something from immobilarity!”
🤣
It was fun. Love Wu n that opportunity.
When i was 18yrs old, T La Rock took me to a private dinner at Sylvia’s in Harlem. It was Grandmaster Flash, G-Man from Crash Crew, maybe Reggie Reg?, Kangol from UTFO (rip) n a few others. 🤯 I just sat there n soaked up the moment i was allowed to be part of.

My favorite record cover with graff. Jellybean’s Wotupski. There is a bunch, but this was done w spray paint, not markers. Incredible style for this era, ‘84, by Seen n Duster. What’s your fav

Rest in Peace 45 King. From what I heard, all the right people were at his funeral to send him off into the sunset. Mark’s records n beats were a huge influence. The Breakmania graff cover is still one of my all time favs. Thank you Mark. 🙏🏻 The impact will last forever.
we used to do it out in the park... had my lil mini me, JS2 w me. bucket hats, scratching, n graff shirts. hip hop is where u see kids, rap crap is where u see cops. peace, unity, love, n havin’ fun... ✌🏻❤️
happy born day
@REALDJPREMIER
the top is a pic of us 25 years ago in miami when i was just amped to take a pic next to you. the bottom is my son feelin’ at home, chillin’ on your Gangstarr rug. thanks for all u do n making us feel like family. enjoy your day. ✌🏻
I did this one in Jamaica, Queens, in 1992. Put in way more than “10,000 hours” in graff and DJing. We are not “historians,” or witnesses, we are the ones who do it…

I wanted an Artifacts feature on my album, thank you for making that happen. Thanks for the graff convo n the music. Most in hip hop use graff for logos n vids to look cool, we really do this. Respect to this NJ legend, my condolences to El n his family.
😔🙏🏻
Ya don’t stop! We actually do the stuff everyone fakes on IG. Waiting to see what they pretend to do in ‘24. Remember perception is not reality.

My brother Rahzel at Electric Lady studio in 1987 w JMJ, Romeo n the Gotti bros. Rahzel was first on record in 1983, was one of thee orig beatboxers, and the work he did w Paul C in this era was super tough. Respect to all beatboxers, n the “Rakim of beatboxing,” Rahzel 🎧🎤📈
Until someone posts 7 albums made by only one producer n mc that bests Gang Starr’s catalog, influence, consistency, skillset as an mc/producer AND dj, it will always be Gang Starr. multiple decades of classic hip hop, one mc, one prod/dj.
1 time on tour as KRS’ DJ, another MC called promoter n complained they wanted to headline. We said SURE, destroyed the stage n then KRS told the crowd to follow him if they wanna talk n take pics. He jumped off stage n walked out of the club. 75% of the crowd followed him out.
one time prince paul came by my house to record w rahzel. i was in a bad mood after dealing w a shady booking agent n was tellin’ paul how some of these dudes who use hip hop but dont come from hip hop might just need to b punched in the face every so often. paul then signed this
I’ve released a few dozen albums, singles, n scratch records on vinyl over the last 25 years. They ALL did well, and i try to stick to quality over quantity. New vinyl releases coming soon via Fatbeats. 🎧📈
Last night we celebrated as our hometown hero Large Pro received an award from our borough president as an outstanding n important person in Queen’s history. Uncle Ralph handed him the award. I did this graff piece for him n spun w DJ Eclipse.

R.I.P. DEZ aka Dj Kay Slay.
Only a few of us who represent graff and DJing, and DEZ was a NYC original. From his appearance in Style Wars, his train pieces to his mixtapes n songs, he was hip hop. Rest in peace…
Philly! I got to paint this and DJ right in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Something I never expected to do. So many great DJs n writers from that city. A ton of classic Philly hip hop in the crates. Respect.

I was trying to narrow down my all time favorite A Tribe Called Quest song. I think it’s We Got The Jazz. I also love the remix but the original version is possibly my fav ATCQ song.
Do you have a favorite or is it too hard to pick? Not easy at all. Incredible catalog. 🎧🎤📈
like whut!?!? doing some cuts w my new

digital needles that you can see attached on the center of the vinyl. it tracks n mimmicks the vinyl movement n sends it via receiver to my serato. zero lag n perfect accuracy. i will always b a purist at heart but i embrace new tech.
Demand to see an actual DJ at a hip hop show. MCs having a producer who can’t DJ standing there pressing a button is not it. This is why the kids get confused. Respect the culture and the DJ. If you don’t see an actual DJ, boo, because you are getting ripped off. ✌🏻
