People are loving the close-up action with our early county town and parish maps! The map pictured on the right is of #Kiama, proclaimed 11 August 1859. #slnswmaps

The language barrier in Eighteenth-Century Europe: the French-speaking Swiss publishers preferred to source their paper from Lyon and Basançon than from German-speaking Basel, which was close by and a major paper market. #DHRGSeminar

Two lessons from the #STN data: (1) paper requirements could vary wildly year-on-year in the publishing industry; (2) one big bestseller could consume an enormous proportion of a publisher’s paper, up to 80%. #DHRGSeminar

A problem: how to build an estimate from a set of incomplete datasets, each of which is constructed on different bases? Humanities data provides a “fuzzy snapshot” of reality. #DHRGSeminar

Millions of sheets were required for the C18th book industry. It was the biggest cost. 300-700 million sheets were required annually, and our publisher required about 3 million sheets. A significant sample for a statistical analysis of the book trade. #DHRGSeminar
