The average person in the 90s didn't even know what the Internet was. Those that "did" only used AOL's walled garden. (Think Facebook with fewer features.) Some people thought email was the Internet.

Hey kids. If your parents say they used the Internet in the 90s odds are they didn't. Though the benefits of the Internet are a no-brainer now, at the time those of us using/creating it were brandished as "nerds". There was a huge pushback against its integration.
