Buckland Abbey #Devon Founded as a Cistercian abbey in 1278, dissolved in 1539 and sold in 1541. Church retained as principal component of new house while most of the rest was demolished, including the transepts to let light into a central hall under the tower. 📸: my own

This evening @Our_Exeter takes you back in time 95 years from 2025 to 1930 and the approx location of the stunning Dellers Cafe on the corner of Bedford St & High St in #Exeter Damaged in WWII, but said to be salvageable, the decision for demolition was controversially taken.🧵
