“Without maintenance budgets, Sustrans’ CEO Xavier Brice pointed out to me that there’s an active disincentive for councils to deliver new routes. Infrastructure without maintenance funding can simply be termed ‘a liability’. “.

“…There will be a diversion for pedestrians but unfortunately, we aren’t able to sign one for cyclists as there isn’t a safe alternative route. This section of the greenway is being resurfaced and we’re also installing lighting, given how busy this section is.".

We've received additional information from @SustransNorth : "The route will be closed from 16th June to mid-September between Tofts Road (Cleckheaton) and Knowler Hill (Liversedge)….

If their application is approved, Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act will allow Kirklees to use ANPR cameras to enforce driving offences like using bus lanes, banned turns, and prohibited vehicles. We support this change and think it will create safer streets for all users.

Leeds Road cycle lane between Deighton Road and Neptune Way will be closed from 19:00 30th May until 06:00 2nd June. Cycles are to use the main carriageway.

From a local club. “Glass on Calder Valley Greenway, between Thornhill road and Aldams Road besides the River Calder in Dewsbury. Someone had been deliberately smashing bottles on this stretch, I counted five, and picked up a puncture doing my best to clear the worst of it….”.
