🚜All the wrong kind of drama today. Picture this: fields with curlew chicks hiding being cut for silage! Enter Bruce, our cool curlew champion contractor. With a thermal drone, and a crew of fabulous farmers and volunteers, a dashing (sic) rescue was orchestrated. 1/

To everyone who helps, bird ringers, gamekeepers, fieldworkers, supporters on facebook, & those who simply believe in our mission — thank you. Together, we do all we can to hold on to curlews in our valleys for our children. You can support our work too 🙏

However, we'll keep on doing all we can to help. Had we not found these nests there's every chance they would have been lost to silage cutting. To every one of the farmers 🚜we work with, thank you - you are all fantastic and great curlew supporters.

Heartbreaking news- an intense storm (40 mm) while one of our #curlew families was hatching. All the chicks died of exposure, one in the egg. Poor Mum couldn’t keep them dry and warm. She lost her first nest this year to a stoat and all her chicks in the previous 2 years to fox

Update: 10 nests hatched, 37 chicks, 11 nests sitting.6 nests lost: 3 to stoat, 1 to crows, 1 suspected infertile, and a sheep mishap. Weather turned from dry to squally showers. Curlew conservation is full of is full of highs and lows, the team's out working hard as always 🫡
