1/2 @DallasCath, Your Excellency, if the Gospel requires us to offer preferential treatment for the poor, you should be against HB3 and SB2. It will eventually make the rich richer, and provide less support to our most vulnerable, our poor and SpEd students.

THIS! It happened to someone dear and near to my heart just this year! Teachers have to space their pregnancies in order to accumulate enough paid absences to avoid being docked. God forbid an unplanned pregnancy should occur before she's recouped enough days.
Despite 3 of 4 Texas teachers being women, many school districts do not offer paid maternity leave. That didn't surprise me too much. Most Texans don't hve access. But what I didn't know - & I'd venture to guess much of the public doesn't - is they can also DOCK teachers' pay š§µ.
