The @GuardianAus refuses to publish information that allows a correct and more balanced view on pesticides. It’s the third separate occasion that they have done so. Disappointing double standards for a publication that believes in information equality. So here it is. #agchatoz

Pesticides are a vital part of producing safe, abundant, and affordable food — but how do we know they’re being used safely? Stringent regulation sets Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) which are strict limits on how much pesticide residue can legally remain on food when it's sold.

Gene editing isn’t just for resilient crops—it could help protect our oceans, too. Researchers have identified gene editing strategies to boost the natural heat tolerance of corals, helping them survive rising ocean temperatures. #biotech

Advances in crop protection R&D mean we’re now using as little as 75g/ha of insect, disease and weed control that required as much as 2,400g/ha in the 1950s. #pesticides #resistancemanagement

Thanks to breakthroughs in agricultural science, farmers only need one third of the land they used prior to 1940 to feed a single person. Currently, 0.6 hectares is required to feed just one person, a sharp drop from 1.55 hectares in 1940.
